What a great year it was dipping ice cream at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair on Tuesday,  August 17, 2010.  The Damascus Lions Club, along with the Damascus High School Leos, the Baker MS and Rocky Hill MS Leos, and all the partners–in–service did an outstanding job. Tuesday was senior day at the fair and Damascus sold $8,020.57 worth of ice cream. 

Thank you to Lion Doug and Lion Gerta from Laytonsville who ran the ice cream parlor during the week in the pm shift and to our very own lion Gary Rogers for his am shift work, in running the parlor all week.  

 Also I would like to thank all the Lions who went to the dairy barn on Saturday mornings before the fair started and made the building look so nice. Thank you to the Lions Barry (Barbara & Tony) for stocking all the ice cream into the bins with me on Wednesday before the fair started. 

I would like thank my wife, Lion Tammy, for giving instructions to all the young Leo volunteers all day behind the counter and for help run the ice cream parlor.  And I would like to thank my family who are always involved in our club activities. I would also like to thank the Leo advisers and all their efforts bringing the kids to the ice cream parlor.  Without them this would not have been the great success that it was. Our Damascus Lions Club members turned out in great show of support this year and I would like to thank all of them. It is so nice to just have people stop in and visit for the day, it means a lot!!! 

I did some calculations and we had over 75 people come in and work in the ice cream booth that day. There were 450 man hours spent running the ice cream parlor. Our lions club will bring in $1,667.00 for our single day at the fair. What a great job we all did. Thank you for your continued support.

The next Lions Club Blood Drive will be on January 18 at the DVFD Activities Building on Lewis Drive.  1-7.

What a great year it was dipping ice cream at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair on Tuesday August 18, 2009. The Damascus Lions Club along with the Damascus High School Leos and the Baker and Rocky Hill Middle School Leos and all other partners in service did an outstanding job. 

Lion Gary from Damascus and Lion Gerda from Laytonsville, who run the ice cream parlor during the week, found themselves on Tuesday with a lot of spare time on their hands again because we do such a terrific job.  Tuesday was Senior Day at the fair and Damascus sold approximately $7,000.00 worth of ice cream. I would like to thank Lion Gary Rogers for all he did this year for running the ice cream parlor for the entire week. 

A special thanks to Lion Barbara And Lion Tony for coming in on Thursday with me before the fair started and stocking all the ice cream into the bins and doing a final cleaning. I would like to thank my family who is always involved in our club activities for their support. I would also like to thank Lions Leslie Poole and Barbara Barry for the Leos’ support. Without them this would not have been a great success. Our Damascus Lions Club members turned out in great numbers to show support this year and I would like to thank all of them. Special thanks to King Lion Mary Francis Gosnell for the information board we set up to advertise our club to the public.  We had over 60 people come in and work in the ice cream booth that day. There were approximately 325 man hours spent running the ice cream parlor. What a great job we all did.

Thank you for your continued support. I will be able to report some earnings for the club within the next two weeks or so.

At our blood drive on Monday June 15, 2009,we collected 75 units of blood. This is our first drive to report for 2009 – 2010 club year. 

Thanks to all the Lions and partners in service who support the blood drives.  Thank you to Safeway for baking 8 dozen fresh donuts.

Our next 2 blood drives are at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Sunday April 5, 2009 from 8:00am – 2:00pm and Damascus United Methodist Church on Thursday April 30, 2009 from 1:00pm – 7:00pm.

This puts our yearly total at 456 so far. Thank You!!! . Our next drive is scheduled for Thursday February 5, 2008.  This will be held at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Lions Club next drive is March 16, 2009.

We continue to feed the ARC staff. Its numbers can be between 15 to 20 workers. This has seemed to make a very big difference. They first are very appreciative and they stay in the building and do not go out for food. This makes the ARC staff a better work force.

I would like to thank our Lions and guests for the set up of our drive at the D.V.F D. Activity Building. Thank You.

We had our Mary Kay basket donated by Lion Marsha Holpuch. The value was about $90.00. Thank You.

All donors received a Tote bag from the American Red Cross. Thank You.

I would like to thank Safeway for always supplying the donuts and newspapers. Valued at $25.00. Thank You.

I would like to thank Ledo’s Pizza for donating the pies in the canteen. Thank You.

I would like to thank Lion Mary Francis Gosnell for coming in all day to pop corn for all the donors.

I would like to thank Lion Tom Jackson for all his work on the signs north and south of town. Thank You.

I would like to thank all the Lions Club members for all of the hard work. It is proven if we make the phone calls it seems to increase the units of blood we collect. Thank You.

I would like to thank the Lions in our club who still continue to give a unit of blood each time. Thank you.

I would like to thank King Lion Eloise and Lion Tuck for setting up the Lions marketing display board.

This seems to be working. We have gotten some new members from this. Thank You.

I would like to also thank my Mom and Dad for being involved with our blood drives. They show up around 10:00 AM and leave with me about 9:00 PM. Thank you.

I would like to thank my (2) nieces for helping all day at the blood drive, especially with set up. Thank You.

We have a great community. Damascus is a special place. Thanks to all who continue to support our community blood drives.
