Our second blood drive with Inova Blood Donor Services was held on March 28.  It was great to see that we had donors waiting at the door prior to the start of the blood drive and, we also received more positive feedback about Inova. We collected 35 units of blood during this drive and will strive to do all we can to increase that number.  Did you know that 35 units of blood have the ability to save up to 105 lives?

I would like to thank the following people for their help in making calls, canteen, reception and set-up: King Lion Marcia, Lions and friends Bill Mahylis, Charlie Hertel, Chris Fletcher, Dennis Babb, Jerry Mallack, Jerry Warfield, Ken Phillips, Marie Didone, Pattu Druairaj, Ray Hertel, Tom Jackson, Virginia Hertel and Wayne Marr.

We collected 84 units of blood at the Damascus Lions Club Blood Drive on March 15, 2010. St. Paul’s Catholic Church had a blood drive on Sunday March 28, 2010 and they collected an additional 17 units of blood. This puts our yearly total at 552.

 The Damascus UM Church is having our 1st blood drive of the 2010-2011 year on Thursday May 13, 2010.  Our next drive is scheduled for Monday June 7, 2010. This will be held at the Damascus Vol. Fire Dept Activity Building.

 We had our Mary Kay basket donated by Lion Marsha Holpuch. The value was about $100.00. Thank you to Safeway for supplying the donuts and newspapers valued at $25.00.

I would like to thank all the Lions Club members for all of the hard work. It is proven if we make the phone calls it seems to increase the units of blood we collect. 
I would like to thank the Lions who came in and helped set up the hall.  I would like to thank the Lions in our club who still continue to give a unit of blood each time.

I would like to thank my son Lee and daughter Candice for helping set up for the drive. I would like to thank King Lion Mary Francis Gosnell and Lion Joy Schwab for setting up the Lions marketing display board and being greeters.I would like to also thank my Mom and Dad for being involved with our blood drives. They show up around 11:00 AM and leave with me about 9:00 PM. Mom also makes calls to prospective donors. Thank you! 

 We have a great community. Damascus is a special place. Thanks to all who continue to support our community blood drives.

At the blood drive on September 21, we collected 81 units of blood, bringing our total for the year to date up 195 units. Thanks to all who helped – it is much appreciated!!!! 

Our next drive is Oct. 22 at Damascus United Methodist Church from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.
