A committee of Lion Wayne, Lion Mike, two local artists, and interested volunteers has convened several times since December for the purpose of planning the upcoming “Arts Festival”. Three Damascus non-profits are participating in the planning and implementation. They are:
- The Damascus Lions, whose share of the profits will be used for scholarships for needy youth
- Faith Connections, whose share of the profits will be used for scholarships for their successful GED students for the purpose of furthering their education.
- Thor Teams Inc., whose share of the profits will be used for its mentoring and tutoring program for needy Damascus youth.
One other major participant is the Damascus Recreation Center which has arranged for our use of the Center facilities free of charge.
The event: Friday and Saturday, May 15 and May 16
- Thursday, May 14…..Lions mark the Rec, Center gym and social hall for the booth assignments.
- Friday, May 15…….Art and Crafts vendors are welcome to set up their booths during the afternoon. There will be an invitation only reception for participants, dignitaries and sponsors from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, May 15. Fifteen original paintings of “Damascus as it is today” by David Terrar will be on display.
- Saturday, May 16……The Festival from 9am to 5pm.
Other Notes: Currently 32 Artists and Crafters have registered. Many other details will follow
Since this is our first year, our expectations of financial rewards are very conservative. Therefore, spending the anticipated profits before actualization is ill advised.
