A wave of freshly popped popcorn wafted through the Damascus Community Fair early Friday AM, Sept. 10 as we prepared for approximately 200 children from area schools. And once we started, the popper, it didn’t stop until Sunday at 3 pm. The old “Grampers” popper is getting tired; it is slowing down big time; It has been popping for 18 years. Lion Roy Stanley was kind enough to loan us his popper for the weekend. Thanks Roy. . That enabled us to keep up with the demand Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, we ran only one popper and people waited in line to get their free popcorn.
Approximately 1950 bags of popcorn were consumed with some fair goers coming back for more.
That aroma sure does attract folks. There were 17 Lions who gave of their time during the weekend and we clocked about 110 hours of fun and labor.
Thanks to all who helped. We truly needed you. Thanks to the Baker Leos for stamping the popcorn bags; also to our “Popcorn “mascot, Lion Lenora Kish’s grandson, for donning his outfit and handing out popcorn to the fairgoers.
The Damascus Community Fair is the town’s best kept secret. And the Damascus Lions sure have a niche in that secret!
