On Friday July 8, 7 members of the Damascus Lions Club marched in the Damascus Days Parade representing the Damascus Lions Club. As is tradition, the Lions rode on a hay wagon pulled by a John Deere tractor provided by Lion Tess Gladhill and the Damascus Gladhill Tractor mart. The tractor this year was an antique 1964 2520 Diesel row crop which provided ample power for the float and was deftly driven by Lion Tony Barry. The float was accompanied by Lions Charlie and Tammy Hertel, Lion George Hibbard, Lion Del Mayhew, Lion Patsy McKenzie and Lion Jack Peters who walked the parade route and distributed candy to an eager Damascus population.
The Lions mascot, this year, was donned by Lion George Hibbard’s granddaughter, Erica Evans who is always enthusiastic to assist the Lions club. The Lions Hay Wagon also provided transportation for Lion Patsy’s two sisters who found themselves stranded mid route when their own float had mechanical problems.
Thanks to Lion Julie Sain, the Lions float was adorned this year by new banners which contained information about the many Lions Club activities as well as information about Lions Club membership.
A fantastic time was had by all despite the very hot weather. Thanks to Lion Charlie Hertel who provided a case of water and insisted we all stay hydrated.
