Thursday evening was a warm summer night. At 7:00 p.m., Lions Mary Frances, Chris, Ray, Tom J., Marcia and myself were on the lawn of the Damascus United Methodist Church to mark 30 spaces for the Damascus Days Lions Flea Market. Ray had a trusty hammer and stakes and as always Tom brought his well used many times before long tape measure and a back-up just in case. We divided into 2 groups, one at each end of the yard, and I gave each group our marker maker with paint. We quickly went about our task and 45 minutes later we stood around admiring our work.
Then on Saturday July 8, a wonderful bright sunny day, the flea marketers begin to arrive. They each picked out their special spot. Lion Chris was there bright and early to get the Lions Club spot. She began to set up all of our club’s goodies as I directed the marketers to the available spots as they each arrived. By 9:30 everyone was in place, set and ready to go. The fleas (buyers) began slow to show, but after a bit, were steady for the rest of the day.
We sold 23 spaces for a total of $460.
