What a great time it was dipping ice cream this year at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair on Tuesday August 14, 2012. The Damascus Lions Club along with the Damascus High School Leos and students, Rocky Hill Middle School Leos and students and Clarksburg High school students and all other participants did an outstanding job.
A special thanks to Lion Martin Carr’s two granddaughters. They did a fantastic job. We had over 70 volunteers who worked over 400 hours. Thank you!!!
Lion Gary Rogers from the Damascus Lions who managed the Dairy Barn during the week did an outstanding job along With Lions Gerda, Doug and Tom. Lion Gary we know that you have had enough of the Dairy Barn and all the ice cream you can eat, you’ll be missed!!!
It was a record year; all the clubs combined collected over $68,000. The front of the Dairy Barn was painted this year with the traditional Lions colors yellow and purple. New asphalt was poured in the front of the building. Tuesday was senior day at the fair. Damascus sold $8,845.00 worth of ice cream and drinks on our day alone. This was just $200.00 less than last year.
I would to thank all the lions who participated: Lions Barbara and Tony Barry, Martin Carr, Carol Cook, Bernie Duplan, Chris Fletcher, Tammy Hertel, Marcia And Charlie Holpuch, John Holpuch, Katie Dougherty, Jennifer Warfield, Wayne Marr, Ray Molesworth, Ronnie Poland, Bob Snapp, Carol And Charlie Stone. I would also like to thank my daughter Candice, my parents Ray and Virginia, my son Lee for coming in on Thursday evening before the fair and stocking all of the ice cream into the bins from the truck.
I would also like to thank Lion Mary Kroll for her support with the Rocky Hill Middle School Leos. Without them this would not have been a great success. A special thanks to a past Leo Jonathan for staying all day. It was also nice to see Lions Joy And Warren Schwab come around and visit.
It was sad not to have a past Lion with us this year, Marvin Myers. He passed away just a few months ago. He had been involved with the Dairy Barn for over 20 years.
If I have missed someone, I apologize: please don’t be silent. Thank you all for your support.
It is stated that we will receive $2,150.13 for our single day at the fair. What a great job we all did. Thank you for always supporting Lionism. Mark on your calendars Tuesday August 13, 2013. This is next year’s ice cream dipping. See you there.
