The January Blood Drive began a relationship with INOVA Blood Services of Sterling, Virginia and the assumption of blood drive duties by Lion Ken Cook. Despite a competing RED CROSS blood drive in Damascus, several days before, which resulted in 37 units; ours brought in 56. Many donors, who began lining up at 12:30, commented on the professionalism and speed with which the INOVA team serviced the donations and a willingness to donate again.
Thanks to all the volunteers who served this blood drive as callers, greeters, registrars, set up and at the membership table: Lions Cheryl Wyatt, Tom Jackson, Bill Mahylis, Mike Thornett, Ken Phillips, Leslee Poole, John Washington, Mary Frances Gosnell, Tammy Hertel, Virginia Hertel, Joy Schwab, Roy Stanley, Chris Fletcher.
Special thanks to Lion Charlie Hertel and King Lion Marcia Holpuch for helping with my first blood drive and, to Lion Mike Thornett’s wife, Kathy, who made brownies that were enjoyed by all.
Finally, I have spoken with a local business owner about putting up a flyer for our next blood drive and, he seems amenable to the idea. I will speak with him soon, about possibly providing food for our next drive.
