Did you know that the Damascus Lions, along with other Lions Clubs in our district, manage a campground for young people with special challenges? It is called Lions Camp Merrick. It is a beautiful camping facility on 320 acres of land in Charles County, Maryland overlooking the scenic Potomac River. It is a place to be enjoyed and to provide its children a place to experience the beauty of nature, to have fun and to learn. In the true spirit of Lionism, it is dedicated to service. There are camps for the deaf, for the blind, and for those with diabetes. Here, children are with other children who are just like them. Summer camp programs promote the education, creative expression and social growth of special needs youth. Lions Camp Merrick fosters friendships between children facing similar challenges. It provides our district Lions Clubs with opportunities for service, philanthropy and leadership.
