We had only 2 clean up days at the Dairy Barn on Saturday’s prior to opening. Lion Tammy along with some other Lions and Leos did some redecorating of the back wall behind the dipping freezers. We removed the old cow pattern cardboard and put up a farm mural. I was not able to be there this year to stock the freezers so Lion Tammy and Lion Joe were there to coordinate the stocking and the labeling of all the ice cream and ready the dairy barn for Friday’s opening. Thank You to all who helped get the ice cream in the freezers and who cleaned up on the work days.
On Tuesday August 15th it was senior day and it was pouring down rain all morning. I believe over the past 10 years it has rained 9 of those years. We spent most of the morning mopping and trying to keep the new floor dry so no one would fall. Our Damascus Lions that came to help really stepped up and did a great job. I can’t thank them enough for making it all work out. The Leo’s clubs and partners in service did awesome. Everyone did an outstanding job.
We had 13 Lions, 40 volunteers, who worked over 300 hours. There are a few other people I would like to thank for making the Dairy Barn run successfully: Lion Bill Lynch from Laytonsville, the Lion coordinator for the Dairy Barn for 2017 again; Lions Doug and Gerda from Laytonsville; The cashiers were awesome, Lion Christine, Lion Mary Francis, Lion Barbara, Lion Patricia, Lion Dale, and Lion Tessie for working the cash registers; Lion Warren for helping me ready the Parlor on the Saturday before the fair. Along with Lion Bob, Lion Ray, Lion Joe, Lion Tony for all their hard work behind the freezers. Lion Bob Snapp was loading ice cream like he did 20 years ago. I also would like to thank Debbie Watkins from our church, Mt. View for coming in and working the cash register all day. We also had partners in service Rick and Tammy Monarch from Wesley Grove UM Church come in and work the entire evening shift dipping ice cream and staying to close with the Stone’s. The Barry’s daughter Elizabeth for working the cash register. My parents Ray and Virginia for their tireless energy. Mom at the register and dad cleaning up and keeping the Dairy Barn looking so nice. I would like to thank my daughter Candice for being there to do whatever was needed. I could not do this without my wife, Tammy. She organizes the whole day with emails and phone calls. She then trains all the youth and Leos as they come in, handles all the passes and community service hour questions. She helps with all the little issues that come up during the day and always has a smile on her face. I love you. As the day is getting towards the end. We are all so tired. So that is why we have Lion Charlie and Lion Carol Stone come in around 8 pm to help close down. What a great asset. Tammy and I were able to leave around midnight and leave the final closing to the Stone’s. I would like to personally thank all the Lions that came out and helped.
If I didn’t mentioned your name we still appreciated all your help. We don’t have any exact numbers or know our profit yet but we do know that the Dairy Barn brought in close to 80 K. I will update you in the future when the numbers become available.
Thank you to all who participated and making this an absolutely fun day. PS. Lion Martin Carr you were missed helping me in the morning getting the Ice Cream Parlor ready for the day:)
Thank You
