When all is done – the meeting and greeting, the popping and bagging and working thru the heat, threat of storm with winds and a beautiful Sunday, the fair goers know about Free Popcorn and the Damascus Lions. Attendance at the fair seemed a bit sparse on Friday and Saturday while Sunday was good. Twenty Lions assisted with the popcorn project, putting in some 143 hours, using over 1020 ounces of popcorn kernels and seasoning resulting in 1840 bags of popcorn. Our Lions fielded information about the location of our Eye Glass Collection Boxes, how to make an appointment for the blood drive and the exact location, scholarships for students, noted the date of the Pancake Breakfast, did we accept donations of medical equipment and who to contact to borrow medical equipment and asked questions in general. Membership Chairman, Lion Chris Fletcher, talked with several prospects and will follow up on her conversations.
The giveaway was a Jack-O-Lantern Longaberger basket which was won by Tom Kaylor.
Those who participated in the Popcorn Project were Lions Carol Cook, Ann Davis, Chris Fletcher, Sandy Gill, Marcia Holpuch, Tom Jackson, Wayne Marr, Ray Molesworth, Jack Peters, Ken Phillips, Gary Rogers, Dale Ryan, Joy and Warren Schwab, Bob Snapp, Charlie and Carol Stone, Mike Thornett, JoAnn Woodson and Partner-In-Service Fran Peters. Several of you worked multiple times during the weekend. You worked during some very hot days and threatening weather. It was, indeed, my pleasure to work with all of you. Thanks to all. We have again served our community!
