Hello Lions !
July was a busy month but all went well from my perspective. My daughters and I enjoyed a magnificent trip to Italy. While eating lunch in Tuscany one of my daughters told me to turn around. On the wall was a little Lions International Banner with “Macerata” on it. I’m guessing the Lions meet there!
On July 2, the about 26 adults and 2 children representing the Damascus Lions enjoyed a Keys game.
The parade on July 12 was lots of fun! We had a great turn out and super weather. I was in the Lion suit and did not melt this year. It was threatening rain but the little drizzle went unnoticed by me (Thanks Lion Chris for protecting the Lion with your umbrella!) This is actually the first year we had candy left over (probably because I was in the suit and didn’t consume as much!)
The next morning, July 13, was an early start for all Lions. I helped out at the pancake breakfast while others tended to the flea market. We ran out of food at the pancake breakfast but Lion Tony and Lion Tammy ran out to buy more supplies. Reports on both activities will come soon at our next meeting but I think both events were successful.
Our first meeting of the year immediately followed our busy weekend. We had a delicious “Pot Luck” dinner with fried chicken catered by our own Gary Bellison. Our guest speakers, Rhone Leffler and Andy Cohen from Damascus Motors were well received by all. They talked of the history of Damascus Motors and of their current and future plans for the company. They want work with the Damascus community and with the Lions. Who knows, maybe Damascus Days will correspond with their car show next year!
I am “raffling” off door prizes to one Lion at every meeting. Julie Sain was the lucky winner in July. Attend our meetings and you too could be a winner!
August is also another busy month for Lions. We start with our dinner meeting on August 6 at Kemptown Methodist Church. Ice cream dipping on August 13 will take the place of our second dinner meeting. All are invited to our board meetings, this month it will be August 20 at Tessie Gladhill’s. If you wish to bring something to the board, I will gladly put you on the agenda.
We have a couple of Lions that need our thoughts and prayers. Remember to Appreciate, Believe in and especially Care for our fellow Lions. Let’s try to increase attendance at meetings, remind everyone you know of upcoming Lion events.
I’m guessing August will fly by and I will be back to work very soon L Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Thanks! KL Barbara
