I can’t believe it’s November already – 2015 is almost over. The weather is also very fall like with most of the leaves on the ground and the much cooler temperatures.
Charter night was a big success. We had about 43 people in attendance including our speaker, District Governor Mike Bigler and many other “Big Wigs” from the district. I was so excited to award the Emerson Slacum Award to Lion Sandy Gill and I was equally excited to learn of the recipients for Lion of the Year, Del Mayhew and Lion of the Years, Tess Gladhill and this year we were able to award 2 Melvin Jones recipients Lions Ken Phillips and Mike Thornett.
I was pleased to see many Lions dress up for Halloween in costumes on our October 20 meeting. We had many costumes including a “I Hate Mornings Lady” , Madonna, Friar Tuck, Judge Judy, Jessie the Jelly Fish, Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin! It wings a fun night and our guest speaker Susan Hilton gave us an informative talk on the Fire safety.
Thanksgiving for the community will be the same as last year with Faith Connections hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner to families who live in the 20872 zip code area. We will not be delivering Thanksgiving baskets to families again this year. If you’d like to help out with the dinner let me know and I can direct you to the people in charge of it. Hopefully the schools will come through with canned food drives, making our Christmas baskets plentiful. We will shop for clothes for the local children and the motorcycle club will still donate toys. More information will be coming out soon.
We had another successful pancake breakfast on Saturday October 17. Many people showed up to enjoy our famous hot meal. I believe the bake table also did well. It definitely had plenty of baked goods and other goodies to sell.
It’s White Cane time of the year again. Please remember to fulfil your shift this week. If you can take on another shift see Lion Wayne. Remember when you are standing out there soliciting money to tell the people that all monies raised from White Cane go back to the community in the form of eye services. Many times people have personally thanked me for our vision support.
This time of year reminds me of how important family and friends are in our lives. When you see a fellow Lion show them how you Appreciate, Believe in and especially Care for them.
Enjoy this cool weather!
