The Mobile Health Unit is a part of the 22-c Lions Community Outreach.
The Lions of District 22-C Mobile Health Unit’s mission is to promote and facilitate blindness prevention, outreach, and education; as well as to provide referrals and services through our many partnerships within the community. Our primary objective is to support those populations within our community that are under-served and not considered. Mobile Heath Unit
The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) is an ambitious grassroots outreach program designed to provide free vision, glaucoma and hearing screenings, and distribute educational materials to communities, especially those at high risk, about the dangers of glaucoma, cataracts, and blindness. The MHU consists of two vehicles, the first a 40-foot bus (traveling billboard) equipped with three vision machines, a tonometer and two soundproof hearing booths, used for hearing screenings. The second, a Plymouth Voyager, which provides a means for transporting portable equipment such as vision and hearing machines and a tonometer to indoor events. The MHU provides a means for transporting equipment and volunteers to local neighborhoods to provide free screening examinations in an effort to detect these growing problems early.
